Hello OpenOffice.org,

Would just, firstly, like to congratulate you guys on making this software so open and free and for maintaining it over the years, great work, have been using it for years now and it gives me a lot of joy !

My name is Don and I live in Cape Town South Africa and run a couple of internet businesses, my main project at the moment is www.webhostingsa.com among other things I run my own server in Berlin Germany and write a lot of feel good poetry, I am a poet and I know it J , have included a friendly poem for you, see below. Been back in Cape Town for 6 months now and done a lot of research in the IT market and see a great need to help my fellow Africans, empower themselves to a better existent and your software can certainly speed this up. Getting connected to the internet, is still going to be a slow process, for the majority of South Africans , not to mention other African countries, I would like to reach, who are even further behind in developing their IT infrastructure, so downloading your software is a long way away, but please let us, together distribute OpenOffice.org , to the people for really need it and help Africa catch up with the rest of the world. Let us absorb the need to grow and put on a good show !

May I please just give you an example of what software costs, in South Africa. The cheapest MS Office deal, I have seen is around R4500.00 and that was a student version, so very limited. This is a whole months salary for your average South African, what a rip off and it’s code generator is full of bugs and check out the file size it produces, your software is much better, well done again.

For my business proposal, to work, I need the following few questions answers, please help me  :

I would like to register a domain name url, to help me promote your software, but need to know your trademark guidelines, for the chose of name, ie.

Can I use openoffice, with a combination of other letters, for my domain name ?

Would .com domain ending be ok, or .org be more appropriate ?

I would then need permission to distribute your software on CDRom ?

May I also ask, would I be allowed to include a version of JRE (Java) on this CDRom ?

How can I use your logos on my website ?

Please let me know, where can I find a list of distributors in Africa ?

I would now appreciate your opinion on this matter, as soon as possible , so I can then register my proposed website. We can then, work well together for a common goal, of promoting the best software development project, the world has seen, may it grow forever. Please allow me to distribute your software in Africa and let’s make the Mother continent, more capable of doing business with the rest of the world.

I wish you guys all the best for the future and keep on growing !

Cheers

Don
