Discussing the name *after* release will be even less useful because it's so much more difficult to actually change it at that point. A project name, once it becomes established through use (even well before a release happens) is very difficult to change effectively. That's a big reason I see to choose a least-worst name long before that happens. I do agree, though, with letting the appointed dictator take the weight of that decision and giving him the breathing room to do so.
