Agreed, smartphone is WiFi only. It would be used to connect to a local
server. Ethernet and locally attached drives are a PITA or outright
impossible to use with cheap Android phones (at a minimum, the phone
would need to support USB OTG).

Sure, it's just that this particular product doesn't convince me. I have
a friend who attached an LVDS LCD panel taken out of an old laptop to a
Pi. I really like his project which uses a display controller from a
Chinese company which sells them for around EUR 30 on ebay. Of course,
it's just a panel, no touchscreen. But at least a nice LCD panel.
Honestly, I'd prefer my tablet as a controller over a resistive
touchscreen anyways. The display would mostly be there to display track
info.
