While I still have five SB3s running, I've been trying alternatives. http://www.mgraves.org/2015/04/hunting-for-our-next-squeezebox/
I've used Squeeze Player on a Nexus7 Android table with good results. I've also used SqueezePlay on an old Windows XP netbook. That has the advantage of an Ethernet connection, keyboard & display. May be better for party playlist situations. I also have a Raspberry Pi with HiFi Berry DAC. I really would like to use this combination, but the case presents a problem. The plastic case is iffy...too fragile. I'd like a nice machined metal case, but have yet to find one. I did find someone who would make them, but it requires an order of 50 pieces. If I were to go that route I'd like to add a power-over-Ethernet expansion to the RPi so that the local PSU can be eliminated. The problem with RPi-based stuff is that accessories, like the case, get expensive very quickly.
