Urgh. That came across more arrogantly than I intended. Sorry. I can't even find an online source for the Stroustrup comment now (although I'm pretty sure I've run into it again recently). He didn't say it was impossible always, just not possible in full generality. And, of course, things like Hibernate and ActiveRecord attempt to disprove that on a daily basis. So let's dismiss the above paragraph as any kind of justification, lacking supporting evidence or particular relevance.
