And then we have endless threads about which are essential and
non-essential, because everybodys' tastes differ slightly, just like
yours do here.

No. As a general rule, providing multiple ways usually means people are
left wonder which to use. This option isn't going to change. Either
write script or use command line history if it's a necessity for you.
