You're not the first to suggest the idea, and there is at least some merit to the idea in principle. Feel free to adopt this as your pet sprint issue. However, there is one big issue that requires resolution - how do foreign key and m2m references get serialized if the primary keys for the referred objects are not known? Any 'pk-less serializer' solution will need to come up with a good way to address this problem before it is seriously considered for inclusion into trunk.
