There are already a number of us moderating the lists. At present, it's a post-facto arrangement - we kill the spam when we see it, and ban the spammer. And yes, it's a task that takes non-trival amounts of time. True - but: 1) A non-trivial minority (I know of a few personally) operate in a 'read only' mode, and so don't subscribe to the email. They use the Google Groups interface to keep up to date, browsing when they have the time and inclination. They deserve to have a view as clean as everyone else. 2) There is value in having a clean archive. If a newcomer joins today, their inbox won't contain the last 2 years of archived questions and answers. If we can keep the archive clean, it maximizes the usefulness of the resource, and (hopefully) reduces the inclination to ask a question that has been asked before.
