I would also note that we are in the final stages of the v1.1 release, and 'pencils up' for the SoC isn't until May 23. As a result, the attention of the community is (or, should be) directed at getting the release out the door. Design discussions about SoC projects are going to be massive distractions from this release effort. If you want to start some project prep work, feel free to do so. However, a better way to use this "getting to know you" phase of the SoC is to help contribute to the Django v1.1 release, triaging tickets, getting patches ready for commit, and so on. Once the v1.1 release is out the door, the community will have a lot more attention to give to design decisions like those that the SoC projects will require.
