request.COOKIES.get_signed(key) makes the most sense to me since it's clear you are dealing with cookies and as you said it looks something like the request.POST object. Though it's a bit more verbose than request.unsign_cookie(key), accessing cookies directly through the request object looks wierd and unsign_cookie could be ambiguous.
