I'm sorry if you misunderstood my "what gives". It wasn't directed at you
specifically, and I admittedly overlooked the fact that the last two
patches (which I'm concerned about) address a problem that ends up being
completely unrelated to the first one (to which the needs-* bits apply).
I'll re-file these patches into a new ticket.
