You are reading the tutorial for 'trunk', but you have Django 1.3 installed. Read the right tutorial: https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/1.3/intro/tutorial01/ Any passing core devs fancy changing the website so that the default docs are the latest release rather than the upcoming release, this is the 4th or 5th time I've seen this issue raised on lists.
