Do you have to specify BOTH example.com and *.example.com to get
example.com and all its subdomains?

I am actually using a conf file, so I guess it would be

-x /path/to/conf/file

/path/to/conf/file:
...blah blah...
Domain example.com, *.example.com, example2.com
...blah blah...

Is this a relatively new feature, or has it always been this way? I
don't see this behavious documented anywhere.

Thanks

You'd need:

        -d example.com,*.example.com,example2.com

...or equivalent use of a domains file, e.g.:

        -d /path/to/domains/file

        /path/to/domains/file:
                example.com
                *.example.com
                example2.com
