Yes, I know about about the packages. However, I need to fiddle with  
it because it's going to be installed on systems where the package is  
not available. :) Therefore I need to do a compile-from-scratch and  
roll my own.

I've also been informed that the main developer of this at Sendmail  
left, and there doesn't seem to be anyone there currently developing  
it. The project has been forked at OpenDKIM, where there's a more  
active community.
