its just been a joke from start to finish. i bought my pc about 2 yrs ago and decided to get a pulsar card as well. so as creamware were advertising w2k compatibility "soon" i decided to go for a dual 450 p3 (i think the top end were about 650 at the time so it was a nice box). its taken 2 yrs for their drivers to be w2k compatible and i've been using win9x in the meantime waiting for the day i could effectively double the speed of my box for nothing. installed the drivers under w2k and half the time the drivers cant find the card at startup, then if i try using the sts3000 sampler it plays a few notes and either hangs or crashes and i have to completely reboot as i cant kill of logic which also goes pear shaped. so i've had to disable one cpu and its still not happy. apparently there are issues with the pci bus and dual cpu systems, and as the pulsar card makes heavy use of the pci bus (particularly the samplers, reverb etc which make heavy use of ram as the pulsar card has none on board) it just goes crazy. i think its a genuine issue with all dual cpu systems and the pci bus, mac or pc...
obviously creamware never promised dual cpu compatibility, so i cant blame them... i just naively assumed having 2 cpus wouldnt be a problem as i'd never seen it before (i've had dual cpu machines since 96)... as all i use the pulsar card for these days is the sampler and its adat connections to my 01v, i'm tempted to ditch my pulsar card, get a nice adat card and the exs24 sampler (or maybe a hardware sampler). maybe its time to upgrade to an 1800+ athlon and some extra ram as well... its a shame cos i was really excited about the pulsar card when it came out but most synths are really weak sounding in comparison to a virus (etc) and the effects have been really week up till recently as well... its just too much hassle *sigh* ph. ----- Original Message ----- From: "PANTHER" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Drum & Bass Arena Discussion List" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Tuesday, December 11, 2001 7:50 PM Subject: [dnb-prod] Re: Logic 4.8.1 > d00d, I feel your pain!!! > > My total piece of shite Echo Layla20 will not work with dual proc's, so I > had to take one out too! > The thing that burns me up is the fact that their support pages just say > "Yup, dual proc's are a problem tuff shit" They even say this for dual > G4's!!!!
