Speaking of spektrum coverage:
How do You guys organize Yourselve when it comes down to mixing/EQing and stuff? I mean, it´s a three-dimensional problem:

1) You´ve got different "instruments" with
2) different spectrums playing
3) at different times.

Sometimes I write down the frequencies  off all "instruments"
to see what elements of the track have the same frequency range.
Then I try do narrow down the spektra (sp?) of "clashing sounds" to avoid
overlaps. Most of the time there are still overlaps left, so then it´s more
a matter of "timing".

How do You do it?
And what do You actually EQ?
Most of the time I start with a MIDI-Arrangement an during the course
of the production I convert all elements into Audio. After that I
EQing-the soundclips. Another way would be to change the
original Sampler-/Synth-sounds to fit into the track, but I never do that.
For me it just works ok, but sometimes I have the feeling that there must
be a better way to handle this......

Anyone?

For example, lets say you choose a really low, boomy kick for your track.  Youve made an artistic decision, but youve also made a mixing one since now that part of the spectrum is covered- you got to make sure you choose a bass that wont compete for the same spot.
