the via bug is afaik no problem anymore unless u buy a used pc with those old southbridges via 686a i own such a system but i dont have any problems (at least not caused by that northbridge or the mainboard but thats another topic) there's a faq site for the users of my mobo maybe u wanna check it out: go.to/kt7faq there u can see what problems u HAD to face when using a via 686a southbridge mobo. but via sorted it out now so theres no problem with that anymore. atm u can go for the amd 761, the nvidia chipset or the sis 735 chipset if u dont like via but the kt266a chipset is one of the fastest around. also with an intel board u can experience problems if u buy a lowcost mainboard thats not stable. check tomshardware.com for their mainboard tests and other hardware tests. if id buy a system today it'd still be a amd. go for the xp and get one of these mobos: http://www.tomshardware.com/mainboard/01q4/011126/index.html as far as soundcards are concerned stick to rme-audio.com theyre fast as hell or check sekd.com. on samplenet.co.uk there are many tests of soundcards
