I have a AMD Atlon Xp 1700+ and 256 megs of ram and a 7200 hd. I want to sell my mackie 24 4 VLZ and get a MOTU 24i. Basically this is a soundcard with 24 analog inputs and just 2 outputs. I would like to route my EMU e6400 ultra and virus a into this an mix in cubase with plugins in realtime. I am hoping that I will basically be able to use the emu and virus as soft syths which do no use any of my cpu. I was sick of having to imagine what plugin effects and processors would sound like once i recorded them into the computer from the mackie. Any idea if the latency will make this unfeasible. I think I can get down to 3ms latency by running 64k buffers. There is a zero latency cuemix feature on the motu's but u cannot route through plugins with this feature so it kinda defeats the purpose. Even with latency it should be better then mackies because I can always bounce to audio in a second and still have a good of idea of how a certain plugin or proccesor will sound on a track. If this works I think it will revolutionize the way I work! Imagine bitcrusher and nutty phaser on my virus in realtime! Or adding distortoin to filtered b-lines in my emu! I read that the tech manager from carillion systems says that this works and he reccomends it over an o1v because the 24bit A/D converters on the 24i are pristine. What are your thoughts?
