That's interesting.  I do things the exact opposite. 
I never start a tune with an idea in mind.  I
improvise with the synth until I get something that
sounds cool, then I run with that.  I'll turn that
idea to a loop and improvise over it until I find
something new I like to fit over the loop.  I repeat
this process until I've got a song.  I feel that
improvising helps me to make the synthesizer more of
an extension of my body and it is easier to put my
ideas out quickly the more I practice with it.  It's
cool that you guys pre-plan all of that stuff though. 
For me, it's just more of a spontaneous thing.
