Well...as a long time hardware guy I have a couple of reccomendations.

1. Akai MPC2000

This is what I am currently using. It has a fairly flexible sequencer with
the ability to load midi files via floppy, and you can program in CC
messages as well as other midi data.

One of the best features for playinng live is the ability to use the pads to
mute and un mute sequences (tracks). I tend to assign sever short snippits
to each pad and bring them in and out as layers to build up songs. For live
impov stuff it doesnt get much easier.

2. Akai ASQ-10

Its an old school roger linn sequencer. 2 midi in 4 midi out. This thing
rocks, it takes getting used to, and not as flexible as an MPC but a good
box all around.

3. Alesis MMT8

Depending on how complex your sequences are this could be a good choice. It
is a fairly simple sequencer, but you will have to stream you midi to it, or
program it via step. I used these alot back in my techno days =)

Hope this helps
