The Cool edit thing may work but in my experience (at least using a fairly old version of Cool edit) the results will probably not be that good quality.. Some of the frequencies will be cut from the vocal and some of the guitar will be fractionally Audible...
Probly worth a go though.. I think this is one of those things that you just need to play around with til you get some good results..
