Hi Yup, samplers are where its at - either software ones like in Reason or rack ones (now very cheap and good compared to 5yrs ago) For a good basic set up try a second hand Akai S3000XL or a Yamaha A3000version2 with a cheap PC and use either Steinberg Cubasis or Emagic Micrologic software to sequence your creations. Use the joystick port on the soundcard for the midi keyboard input and pick up a Spirit Folio mixer for combining the sounds. Plug it in your amp/speakers and your free to write tunes,
Or just have a look at Reason if you have a PC.... And really, they're not half bad.. I use my ER-1 and Akai CD3000i sampler together. I wouldn't mind having the another ER-1 (can't beat the price for power/flexibility) or a Jomox XBase-09... that monomix output's kind of dank, but it does have 3 other assignable outs... peaz.
