that's an unfair criticism....no music is truly original...we all "copy"
music that we like...it doesn't make the output uninspired...don't you want
to make music that "sounds" like the music you like??? It takes artists alot
of time to find their own voice so to speak...I think starting out by trying
to imitate sounds that you find fresh and exciting is a good start....

This is what kills drum and bass for me. People hear the music, which is
unlike anything they've heard (although true virgin ears are MUCH less
common now because of the overglut of fake techno being used in
commercials), and the first thing they want to do is go make music that
"sounds like" the music they just heard.

As a result, I have to dig through stacks and stacks of poorly produced
wanna-be vinyl until I get so fed up with the lack of spirit in all the
music coming out that I completely stop shopping for records altogether.

Or its completely on my side of the equation, and I'm just burnt out =)
