is it really the golden rule to have to mash
and filter sounds beyond recognition ? the compilation CDs i bought last week
are like a homage to the Roland JV1080 pre-sets. Now thats lazy !!!! yet these
guys are signed and released by Beechwood music .
I have to wonder that if your able to write a real
kick ass tune, then who in this money orientated music industry will wipe the
dollar signs from their eyes and say "oh no .....hang on , cant release that, I
recognise the loops".

Samples (more unnecessary cap italizing)
Hi
One
thing,
How
come peeps are still releasing tunes on Reinforced using all the classic
breaks?
Granted they f*ck around with them, but they are
all there in their original form on the sample CDs in question. Basically it
doesn't matter where the stuff comes from, its how you make it all sound
in the mix and if the tune kicks ass your laughing and for a large part, who
you might know in the world of music can make or break
you....
I
think this demonstrates clearly the double standards here in the industry
(hey, its actually called an industry, ha, its now a business with
all the trappings and necessity of networking) - its alright to rinse out a
pitched down amen/firefight e.g if you're certain well known old skoolers
(how many times can you base a tune on a combination of dub sirens, Something
Out There and the Raven by Ed Rush) and call it old skool cos people
buy the stuff and they're established, but god forbid any new producer
who is unsigned sending a demo to a label that sounds like an old tune - do
you think they get a chance? Nope - sorry mate, too derivative, try a bit
harder to make your own style...and if its too different - sorry, doesnt fit
the label...its a fickle world unless you know a few people...good on people
like Klute and Commercial Suicide (even the label name is encouraging) for
pushing the boundaries (I don't know if Big Boss is a pseudonym but if he's
new he rocks).
Ah,
feel better for that..;-)
Cheers
Dan

I'm confused. It's okay to use a sample CD as long
as it say "Hip Hop" instead of "Drum n Bass" on the cover?
yeah, i know it seems like Im
contradicting myself, but my point is that if your going to go to sample cds
for breaks, using hip hop ones is the best technique- what you end up with
is breaks that sound like "new" old-school breaks. Better advice is to
save your money and go online to download hip hop breaks- much better than
hitting a drum n bass site and ending up with the breaks everyone else does
(classics aside). Im not against sample cds on the whole, just
uncreative and blind use of them. If your using a Reinforced sample cd
to make Reinforced-style music, well then your not contributing much to the
art form now, are you? Your just dead weight, or a hobbyist at best..
;)
What kind of irks me about the whole issue tho is that
the guys at Reinforced KNOW this. What do you think those guys would
ever do if they recieved a demo with one of their sounds taken straight off
the CD? They'd fuckin laugh at the naivety and lack of creativity
displayed, that's what. --- Drum&Bass Arena Producers
