I too run both, and honestly there isn't much difference when it comes
to the software that runs on both platforms. I never chime in on these
Mac vs PC discussions, but what the hell... If I had to start fresh,
I'd say go PC for a number of reasons:

1) You can build a ROCKET PC for the price of the CHEAPEST Mac.

My office just shelled out some cash for a few new servers, and you can
get brand new rack-mounted, DUAL P4 2gHZ XEON, 1GB RAM, Multiple IDE
RAID Drives, redundant power supplies, etc for $1,200 each. Now,
consider you only have ONE option from Apple at that price range
(educational special 733 G4, 256MB RAM, 40GB Hard Drive, etc.)

Apple G4 CPU's are generally about half as fast (Mhz-wise) for the same
amount of power from an Intel CPU (so a 733 G4 with Altivec-enhanced
software is roughly as fast as a 1.5Ghz P4 with SSE/SSE2 software.)
Don't flame me for this, it's been benchmarked MANY times by various
sites and is the generally accepted formula. So, 2x2Ghz is FAR more
powerful 1x733Mhz. You have to spend $2800 to get entry level dual 1Ghz
Apple hardware - and the difference could be better spent on dual 17"
LCD Displays, badass audio hardware, etc.

2) Software is easier to find (legal or otherwise) for the PC.

Sure, there's a lot of cool Mac-only stuff out there (Digital Performer,
Absynth, etc.) but in the end there's WAY more available for the PC.
There are countless plugins, synths, etc, and now that VSTi is really
taking off, there are a ton of decent freeware/shareware/cheapware
instruments out there.

3) Hardware choices

When it comes to audio interfaces, there's a lot of choices for the PC
that aren't available for Mac. Many hardware manufacturers are
promising MacOS support, but this has become even more screwy with MacOS
X.

4) Operating System

Speaking of MacOS X (which I adore for code development, but there's no
damn software for audio...) It's too bad that there are VERY few X
audio apps now (DP being one of about 5 that are worth running.) The
rest of the crucial apps (Logic, Cubase, Absynth, etc etc) are taking
forever to port. Windows XP is here TODAY with hardware & software that
works NOW. 'Nuff said.

Maybe this puts things into perspective. =)
