Yeah that's what kinda threw me. I pretty much thought that, but I've found 
myself in grey areas a lot since I started doing this shit again.

I actually learned this stuff a little back in my guitar playing days, but 
that was early high school and that was about ten years ago, so it's been a 
while.

On another, somewhat related tip...

I've been doing slower, more "musical" (in the traditional sense) stuff 
lately. That's what got me started on this whole kick of re-learning how to 
read music and then the theory stuff.

I've been using samples of electric and acoustic bass. I'm trying to program 
those downward and upward "walky" basslines (similar to the seminal 
"Flashlight" bassline from P Funk), with mixed results. I don't have a bass 
anymore, or I would take a stab at playing them. Anyone have any advice on 
using scales to get that sound?
