not sure about dithering, but de-essing is taking the ssssssssssss out of
sounds, especially vocals. not sure of the theory behind it, but all i know
is that if you haven't de-essed your vocals you will have problems when it
comes to cutting your record (any harsh hi-resonance treble sound seems to
cause problems when cutting to vinyl).
