My friend Max uses an Audio-Technica ATM-10A for this purpose - it's an
omni-directional (meaning it is better for recording the ambience from a space rather
than the direct sound from something) condenser microphone and from what I've heard
so far it sounds very good! The glass and key sounds used in my tune 'Troll Box' are
recorded with this microphone by him, so listen to that if you want to hear how it
sounds.

And also, he adds while I write this, remember to keep your breath while recording...
