I'm no expert but I wouldn't think WD40 is a good idea.  I'd blow it with
compressed air first, you may need to remove the cover to get at the knob.
If that doesn't work thenm maybe contact cleaner.

I'd seek better advice though as certain cleaner may damage your kit.
