The CPU running at 50% shouldn't be a problem.. (70%+ is where things can start to go
wonky)..

As far as I'm aware the only clipping that you need to watch out for on the mixer is
the master channel, if this clips then the actual output will be clipped and you'll
get distortion. ..

Are you using a limiter on the master channel? I use Waves L2 on the master just to
put a stop to any clipping that may occur.. (and to protect my monitors)..

If you haven't got a limiter then try turning the master fader down in cubase.. If
there's still distortion (and the red clipping lights aren't lit up) then the problem
is caused by something else..

Out of interest.. what's your system specs? I'm in the middle of building a new DAW
and I'm trying to find out as much as I can about CPU/RAM power vs. Cubase
performance. (i.e. How many plugins (roughly) can be run on x Processor)..

cheers,

Nick

Subject: [dnb-prod] mixing problem

Sup list

I'm having a problem mixing a tune I'm working on. At about half through
the song when all the vst's / effects / etc are running a slight
crackling / distorted sound creeps in.

I'm not sure what exactly the problem is. Is my pc taking strain (14 vst
instruments, loads of effects, cpu meter at 50%) or is the mix screwed?

One thing I have picked up is that all the channels are close to maxing
out. What's the best practice when it comes to mixing? Should you try
and get as much volume as possible while you're mixing or is that best
left for the mastering process?
