OK, so I can make subs that are almost how I want them but they still sound NOWHERE near as tight as a lot of tracks I pick up on Vinyl..
I'm talking about that specific type of bass where it's really punchy and just sounds like a wall of sound rather than a bassline.. I can make that type of sound but I can't control it enough to actually mix it with the other sounds... Is it just a question of the right EQing and Compression? At the moment I generally beef up the bass at around 90hz and then take out the mud around 250... Which gives a nice deep tone to it but it lacks the punch and clarity I'm looking for.. Anyone got any advice for this? Compression tips? I think my problem may be more to do with attack and release settings than anything else.. Twiddling them seems to change the aspects of the sound that I want to correct but I can never seem to get it quite right.. Do people use distortion on these types of subs? What waveforms? I tend to use a square mixed with something else but I've got a feeling that maybe I should be using sine waves and then processing them rather than starting with a square? ? Fook knows!! I know that this is a pretty individual question as different people have different views.. Just thought I'd ask! cheers, Nick p.s. Although I'm not exactly a mastering engineer I do practice home mastering sometimes using Izotope Ozone and it does sometimes sound like it might just be the mastering that gets that extra nice sound on the subs.. But I don't know for sure either way... --- Drum&Bass Arena Producers Discussion List http://www.breakbeat.co.uk You are currently subscribed to dnb-prod as: [email protected] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
