No, i use drum hits that i cut up from sampled loops and bung them in the sampler. From there, i can control all parimeters of the sound.
As with regards to bass, i use samplers and synths to get the required sound and lots of effects.
Good effects for enhancing bass are waves max bass, tl audio eq, waves c1. Infact, theres shit loads of effects that come with cubase that can do a wicked job. One of the most used plugins i use is just a simple overdrive. It's not as good as overdriving the E6400 ultra sampler the way i still do and the way dillinga does, but it's good none the less.
If you live in the UK, go to WH smiths as soon as possible and buy a copy of Computer Music magazine. The questions you want to ask are all answered in that magazine.
If i was you, i would part with 30-60 and buy a sample cd from time and space (sample cd outlet). get a drum and bass one to get you started and then experiment with new a wierd cd's.

Peace

Jimbo:o)
