I have a generic laptop (Pro Star is the actual brand) running @933mhz pentium 3 with 256mb of ram. I run linux for final scratch and windows 98 for pro tools LE, acid, soundforge, and reason. The system runs all the software just fine. There are some issues with final scratch, but thats due to crappy ground cables coming off one of my 1200's. The biggest thing to look for when buying these midrange laptops is mainboard architecture(making sure that you are getting a quality chipset). 2cents, J.J.

Does anyone use Apple ibooks or mid range PC Laptops (c.900) for music and if so, what specs do you have that enable you to fully make tracks just using eg Cubase/Logic and a load of Vst instruments? How many tracks do you guys end up with before the computer chokes and whats your favourite soundcard of choice for laptops? I've read that even if the CPUs are fast enough, the hard disks in laptops are often 4200rpm so they end up stunting the grunt Any opinions would be cool, cos I don't know whether i would be wasting my time unless I forked out for G4 Powerbook or a 1800 PC laptop. Don't know about Macs, but some people swear by them....just wondered why Cheers Dan PS - i went to Movement in Bristol last Saturday and it was godawful...the music was hideous and repetitive, no soul in any of the renta step tunes and I longed for nice tunes - whats happened - its certainly not like the DJ Marky compilation... --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
