If you saw the email that andy martin sent about the laptop in which his
sound card isn't sheilded,
That is a good example of what not to get... I know this because I have
the same issues!! You can hear the hd sound coming through your
speakers. Stanton has a list of laptop and desktop computers that they
recommend using with final scratch. I think they are mostly high end
notebooks, but I'm sure you could find something helpful on the list.
Peace, J.J.

What type of chipsets should one try to get/avoid? Im considering
purchasing a laptop for the same purpose - mainly to run final scratch
and for an occassional bit of production (logic/reason) while on the
road.

any recommednations?

thanks,

Hi all

Quick question for a quiet Friday.

Does anyone use Apple ibooks or mid range PC Laptops (c.900) for music
and if so, what specs do you have that enable you to fully make tracks
just using eg Cubase/Logic and a load of Vst instruments?

How many tracks do you guys end up with before the computer chokes and
whats your favourite soundcard of choice for laptops?

I've read that even if the CPUs are fast enough, the hard disks in
laptops are often 4200rpm so they end up stunting the grunt

Any opinions would be cool, cos I don't know whether i would be wasting
my time unless I forked out for G4 Powerbook or a 1800 PC laptop.

Don't know about Macs, but some people swear by them....just wondered
why

Cheers

Dan

PS - i went to Movement in Bristol last Saturday and it was
godawful...the music was hideous and repetitive, no soul in any of the
renta step tunes and I longed for nice tunes - whats happened - its
certainly not like the DJ Marky compilation...
