I know it's not an ideal solution but if you can't find another way, try using CDEX (its free!) to convert to wav first, then load the wav into CoolEdit.

I don't use CoolEdit but I can't see any reason why you can't convert an mp3 into a 16bit 44.1khz wav with it...sounds odd.

I have been using Kazaa for a couple of months now and its great, but when i download a track e.g. acapellas in mp3, upon opening the track it just fills the screen of cool edit with white noise.

Is this because i am converting an mp3 to a 44.1 16bit stereo file (it also asks for this option regarding Intel umas file format or something)?

How am i supposed to open it as an mp3 in Cool Edit, cos it just asks me to choose the file format (44.1, 16 bit etc) as soon as i try to open the file in Cool Edit....doesn't seem to be a way around it...

Any help?

Cheers
Dan

High Contrast uses a lot of acapella samples but I have no idea where he
gets them from. I've got about 150 acapellas downloaded off various places
and about 2% are useable. A big part of it is having the "ear" to hear
parts that would be suitable. As for taking vocals from full tunes, I think
that topic's been done to death but to recap: It's practically impossible to
lift vocals cleanly from a tune without frequencies from other instruments
creeping in. There are plugins which claim to do this by removing elements
of a tune panned left and right on the assumption that the vocals are panned
dead centre. This of course is not always the case and quite often drums and
bass are also panned centre so the results of these plugins are "dodgy" to
say the least. However, with some heavy processing you could get something
useable.

Quite a few of the soulful tracks I've heard recently have quite obviously
used session singers and this probably the way to go if at all possible.

Otherwise, dig deep on kazaa and soulseek for those acapellas. Also, there
are ftp servers chocked full of the things luking around, but getting access
to them is easy said than done.
