I've got SF and Wavelab from kazaa, but just never used them cos i was more than happy with CEP, but may give them a go for this stuff.

i reckon your best bet is to switch to SoundForge.

it never throws up any probs when importing an mp3 file and i found it much more useful than cool edit.
