I guess i know that having tried most of that already, but I have the thing where I don't have a huge amount of time free for the studio, so i think of great stuff throughout the week at work or when i am stuck in traffic then by the time i sit down (only about 4-5 hrs a week) I get sidetracked by my glitchy computer or trying out too many things that go nowhere... I find a day is a minimum to get back into it and get a tune going, so its probably just time...man, I wish I was still a student.
Plus my 3yr old PC is sooo feckin temperamental it changes audio settings at will. A new PC/soundcard *without* a connection to the internet might be useful or a laptop I can take to work.
Jeez, i got to pull myself together....
