Well
I guess i know that having tried most of that
already, but I have the thing where I don't have a huge amount of time free for
the studio, so i think of great stuff throughout the week at work or when i am
stuck in traffic then by the time i sit down (only about 4-5 hrs a week) I get
sidetracked by my glitchy computer or trying out too many things that go
nowhere... I find a day is a minimum to get back into it and get a tune going,
so its probably just time...man, I wish I was still a student.
Plus my
3yr old PC is sooo feckin temperamental it changes audio settings at will. A new
PC/soundcard without a connection to the internet might be
useful or a laptop I can take to work.
I'm still holding out for one of
those headsets that allows you to download the sounds in your brain ;-)
I
might go for a solid month of sampling stuff - ever since i got my supernova, I
keep thinking it might have the sound I want deep inside it somewhere, then I
realise it sometimes doesn't, at which point I have changed the track of what I
was trying to do...
Jeez, i got to pull myself
together....

Seriously tho, I suggest taking a break from producing. Take
a month
off and listen to different genres for ideas. Use the time to
sample
new material, mix records, or organize your sample library. When
you
start to feel the urge again, try different methods of writing -
start
by writing a melody, bass line, experiment with sound design/fx,
try
working with exotic scales / chords...etc. etc.
hope that
heps...
