Subject: [dnb-prod] Re: London Music Scene VS USA scene---True,look at the billboard charts.. they have NO CLUE! they are tracking retail. when nobody buys music. I heard they are tracking Kazaa now and other p2p to see what people really like. The industry here is wrapped in the payola nonsense.. they think that because radio has a PD they have gotten around the issue.. no, they just dont have to pay ALL the djs now.. just the head one!.. this is total crap here.. redundancy is rampant, and that my friends, is what is killing this industry.. they blame Kazaaa, Napster, Imesh, Bearshare and any other p2p, but quite honestly it is thier own lack of creativity in marketing and production that makes this a dead scene. I am in Philadelphia, reknown for Soul - Neo Soul - Jazz, etc. My dad was a sideman for John Coltrane and my Grandad started out Clyde McPhatter and Jackie Wilson both were innovative for thier time, now we have a few camps like Reflective and Substitution [Diesel Boy, etc.} that are trying new stuff.. we only have 2 record stores that cater to any out of the box thinking... 611 and Cue Shit, I ran into Floetry who are FROM the UK and they could not contain thier enthusiasm for UKG, none the less, the industry here has them doing downtempo Neo-Soul / HipHop... why?I ran a 2Step night and got so tired of folks wanting to do the frikin electric slide or some other barn dance when i mentioned it that i decided to publish.. and continue to push from a media standpoint. It's only a matter of time. SONY is firing over 400 employees as of this writing.. why? cause nobody cares about thier bs.. and there really seems to be no alternative, except the occasional eminem wanna be hood murderer / thief / self - genicidal idiot that stands up and claims how many shots he took... oh boy, i am thrilled at that!... really just listening to what US history tells me will be a collectable from another dead azz rapper...well, what about the music? every genre has its gems.. there is really only 2 types of music.. good and bad. but comon the closest thing to d N b, trance, or UKG is Craig David, MJ Cole, and Timbaland? give me a nice long break!I say this. Take control of whatever means you have to promote this art. And go on a bombing run... hit every group, Yahoo, MSN every chat room and every club the internet is closing the divides that once existed. Also, I believe the UK has always been out to prove superiority over its lost child. The US.. we think we got it over here because... well we are the US who the hell do we need to listen to? well that is a mistake. The need for expression and acceptance is greater in the UK so the need to be innovative and original seems to peak every generation.. sort of a kick in the ass... to the sleeping, complacent, industry [trendsetters?] on this side of the water. But, again... these things will come into the commercial arena. and places like the UK will again redefine, re invent and we will be holding this conversation about another new genre. Its about the numbers, and we.. the mainstream are the last to really get it.Lord Algie de Witt

Dear List,
Thats exactly what I was talking about!!!! The US seems to be in some media / commerical induced stasis where there doesnt seem to be any innovation or creativity in any scene at the moment. All they play in clubs here is boring Discoesque Italo Trance and the latest hip-hop from MTV . Thats the thing that bugs me about London. When I first got into Jungle / ardkore I was blown away by the creativity, the pure energy thats been fuelling me ever since. I realized that London has some vibe going for it that you cant find in the USA. Lord Algie de Witt, do you think this has to do with the commerical music regime in the US versus the free for all that they have in London, and thats why we have so little energy stateside???
