take care not to use bad samples...use the best you can, watch out that a lot of sample cds have shitloads of crap on them....
avoid the fruity audio engine as much as you can...better export individual loops at the highest quality and do your mixing /eq-ing/effects etc in cubase, logic or SF's Acid, which has the audio engine from SoundForge, needles to say it is good.

I have a question if anyone would be decent enough to answer.
 
Production wise I use fruityloops and vst plugins to create the
sounds I am after but the sound from the overall mix I find is
quite muddy and not so crisp sounding.
 
Is there any one thing that I should be paying particular attention
to in so far as the mixdown goes or do you feel it is a problem
inherent with fruityloops?
 
Any comments would be most appreciated.
