Well, in most of the record shops I've been in that sell house music, there are clearly divided subgenres: US/Soulful House, Tech/Prog House, Hard House etc etc. and speaking to several house producers, they claim there is a real breach between the sub genres, ie. a tech/prog dj wouldn't be caught dead playing a funky house track.

And come on, how many times recently have you heard people slagging off "clownstep" (basically the new term for jump-up), an entire "sub-genre" of drum n bass.

Also, there's the whole "Mc" scene, which I suspect is predominently a UK but is basically becoming a scene in it's own right. There really are a lot of kids out there that will go to a rave simply becuase of what MCs are playing, regardless of Djs.

Peace.

What do you mean with simply not co-exist?
When it comes down to techno & house most genres can be played out on a night as far as I know, with the exception of the extreme genres like hardcore & gabber.

and to reply to the point, I don't think the subgenres in dnb are different enough to actually create a breach between them,
everyone has his/her preference of a subgenre, but I never heard anyone actually claim they couldn't stand techstep and where totally into dubby-digital-only tracks

Ok, it's been kinda dead on here recently, so lets try and get some debate going!

As dnb appears to be fragmenting, do you think that there will soon come a point where there are distinct sub genres of drum n bass that simply do not co-exist with each other. House music being a prime example of this...

Discuss.
