That sounds like a good setup. I would look in to a good firewire soundcard.

Hi all..
Joined the list about a couple of months ago.. Not really posted
anything, just lurking, until this came along..
I got a Centrino laptop purely for music production since 2 weeks now.
So far I am very pleased with it.. However, since I am pretty new to
music production, I feel not really confident to give you any advice. I
do have not enough experience and cannot make any relevant comparisons.
But if you have any specific questions feel free to fire away.. :-)
As for the P4 versus Centrino comparison. I agree with Chris that in
terms of raw processing power a Centrino processor cannot beat a P4.
However, when taking other factors like battery life and noise level in
account, Centrino processors start to look a lot more interesting.. I
read on some other music forum that P4 laptops (a.k.a. desktop
replacements) get hot quickly and use pretty noisy fans..
Here are the specs of my DAW laptop: Toshiba Sattelite Pro M10, 1.7 GHz
Intel Centrino, 1 GB internal memory, 60 Gb HDD, 32Mb NVida Dual head
graphics card, 15.4" screen (maximum resolution 1,600 x 1,200) ..
Regards,
Rob.

At the moment, I would probably stay away from these power-saving
processors. If I'm buying a new laptop, I always choose the fastest
processor at the expense of battery power... You can always conserve
power on a fast machine...
Linux *will* work on the Centrino processor, but I would still prefer
to have the full power of a p4. I've never tried running the FS on a
Centrino laptop, but it'll probably work. You might want to check
stanton's website.
My laptop of choice right now is a pimped-out Thinkpad T30 -- p4
2.4GHz and 1GB of RAM. It has a nice display (1400x1050) and it's
rock-solid. I accidentally dropped it about 3' onto CONCRETE in the
RAIN and it's still kicking major ass...
