Upgrade dnews to 5.4j7 or later.
Then do this:
tellnews newgroup new.group.name y
tellnews copy_group old.group.name new.group.name
tellnews showgroup new.group.name
tellnews delete_items new.group.name 1 NNN
(where NNN is the item number in the new group you want items deleted to)
(Upgrading is necessary as some of those commands may not work in 5.0 )
