Hi, I believe it's a dns bug with the posix threading library on some 
platforms/os versions.

There are two solutions that will probably fix it
         1) Add 'nodns true' to dnews.conf, and make your access.conf rules all
         non name based, I recommend this solution, it's annoying but it 
will work.
         2) Try a non threaded build, for freebsd we have a _nothread.tar.Z 
build on
         our ftp site of dnews that might do the trick.

Upgrading your 'os' 'might' fix the problem too.
