we using FreeBSD also.
we have with DNEWS & FreeBSD best performance

- we use a diskdrive raid for news data.
- we use FreeBSD 3.4
- this server is only news.

i working fine.

i upgrade from linux to FreeBSD ... FreeBSD is for us faster
