I'm a bit stumped, I can't see why the new ones would be treated
differently, or re-appear, ahh, I know did you restore db*.itm
files from somewhere before doing the rebuild_gids?
If so the trick is to just restore both sets of db*.itm files, the old
ones and the new ones, but renumber them so they don't over-write each
other, then do the rebuild_gids.

And I'll try and think of another explanation. (Also describe what you have
been doing in more detail as I can't understand how your current explanation
could result in two different results?)
