Ok, first stop dnews and make coppies of your current
active.dat
spool/db*.itm files
Then, look for a backup active file, you should find one called
active.mon
in the spool or workarea or log directory, if you find that and it has
the missing groups use it, (copy it over active.dat and restart dnews)
If you can't find that, then recreate all the groups, then type in:
tellnews rebuild_gids
That should restore all the items it can find in db*.itm files, the reason
you need to backup the files first is if something goes wrong with the
rebuild_gids command you will permanently loose your db*.itm files and
that would be bad if your backups are no good.
