I have setup a news machine with the following included:
P4 1.5
1Gig Ram
1.4TB Disk Array
2 Gigabit Ethernet Cards
1 10/100 Ethernet Card.
The machine is running Windows 2k Server and it is being fed by a Cyclone
and Diablo machine on private links. No matter what configuration changes
I make to the unit, the maximum throughput I can recieve is 50mbs on the
Ethernet. I have checked the Ethernet settings and even split each up,
but the aggregate throughput for Dnews is 50mbs. Has anyone seen this
before? Is there a option to change to fix this? I do not believe this
is a problem with the Cyclone or Diablo machines since they are feeding
other sites fine and they are hardly loaded. Also, I do not believe this
is problem with the connection between them since they are connected on a
private link.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
We have had no problem exceeding that speed on multiple systems
before (using nntprelay from memory).
We would be happy to test it more if you like. It would
be much easier to test if we had access to both the sending
and receiving system. We would not need root access on the sending
system.
One thing to try (if you haven't already) is some other network measurement
of actual throughput (e.g. ftp for example) from one system to another, just
to ensure your network link is working at the speed expected with real data.
If you are using the part completion system you should try turning it
off as it may be limiting speed by creating a disk bottleneck.
And next I would run a testfeed utility (there is one on our site) to
see if you can pump more data across with a different feed mechanism.
You can test this both locally, and on the feeding system, to test if
the problem is local, or network/link related.
Let me know what you find or if you want us to examine it more.
