Hi, Could you provide us with more details on your configuration?
Service Packs, Hot Fixes, and networking hardware. Tests have shown this problem is system-specific, and may occur in some cases after the installation of Service Pack 1. If you have not yet installed Service Pack 1, we recommend you do so as it may also correct the problem. I've found two previous threads on this problem, and both were responded to on more than one occasion by our support staff. One case involved another NNTP server running on the port (Which doesn't appear to be the case here), and the other remained unresolved as far as I know (Or it was resolved off the list). Only a small number of systems show this problem, and we are unable to reproduce it locally. This suggests it may be related to specific hardware or driver configurations. We would like to get to the bottom of this problem and find a working solution if possible. Tellnews gives me the same error described in to earlier threads: wsock: (omni-xe3) The descriptor is not a socket. wsock: (SocketClose failed, trying hard close) The descriptor is not a socket. File error:: No error nntp: Channel close failed wsock: (nntp: socket_close error information) The descriptor is not a socket. Telnet to localhost on port 119 gives me: Connecting To localhost...Could not open connection to the host, on port 119. No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. for the obvious reason that the DNEWSSVC service isn't running. A manual start gives this error: Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly. I installed the software as an administrator. The service by default logs on as a local system account, but the above error arises whether that is left as the default or changed to log on as administrator. I have no other software running and no firewalls. You guys have an XP bug, and you have ignored two earlier threads about it. Alan
