You need 'fts.conf' in /var1/dnews/fts
and restart dnews.
And check there is a blank line after the fts_conf setting in dnews.conf
IF that doesn't fix it send us your
dnews.conf
fts.conf
command line you used to run xmit
newsfeeds.conf
